Scarborough Northeast is a neighbourhood in Toronto, located in the northeast corner of the city, in the former City of Scarborough. This neighbourhood has retained its rural roots by preserving mature trees, ravine woodlots and parklands.

Amenities

Scarborough Northeast is well served by TTC buses (131 Nugget, 132 Milner, 133 Neilson, 134 Progress, 39 Finch East, 116 Morningside, 85 Sheppard East, & the 102 Markham). Malvern is bordered by major roadways including Finch, Sheppard and Morningside Avenues, and Markham Road which provide good access to different parts of the city. Markham and Neilson Roads and Morningside Avenue provide quick and easy access to Highway 401 on-ramps south of Sheppard Avenue.

The Toronto Zoo, the Rouge River, and the Rouge Valley Park are located in Malvern. In 1974, the Toronto Zoo was moved from its original downtown location to its current location in the Rouge River valley. The new location enabled the zoo to increase its overall area from 3 hectares to over 300 hectares. The Zoo offers 710 acres of parkland with over 5,000 animals in their natural habitats. Just to the east of the Zoo is Rouge Park, which is one of the largest parks within an urban area in North America. The Rouge River is part of the Rouge Park. This park contains over 700 hundred varieties of wild plants and its thick forest is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, coyotes, fox, raccoons, hawks, owls and a variety of bird species. It is one of a few wilderness areas left in South-Central Ontario, and has been virtually untouched by development since the arrival of Europeans. It is currently surrounded largely by agricultural land and sports a considerable network of walking or bicycle paths.

Scarborough Northeast residents find it convenient to shop at the Malvern Town Centre, which is located at Tapscott and Neilson Roads. This modern, indoor shopping centre includes a popular supermarket and a discount department store as well as an equal number of retail chain stores and independently owned stores.

The Scarborough Town Centre is the largest commercial and entertainment hub east of Yonge Street in Toronto. It is located next to the Scarborough Civic Centre, Albert Campbell Square, Consilium Place and the Canada Centre Building, near McCowan road and Highway 401. It is serviced by the rapid transit station Scarborough Centre.

The Scarborough Walk of Fame is also located in the Town Centre, consisting of a number of plaques embedded in pavement to honour notable residents, past and current.

On May 17, 2006, the Nike Malvern Sports Complex was opened in the Malvern neighbourhood and includes a basketball court, a practice soccer pitch, and a running track. The track was constructed from 50,000 used running shoes. The complex was built on the grounds of the Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, but is open to the public. The Malvern Recreation Centre, located at 30 Sewells Road, is a multi-use facility that features an indoor ice arena and sports fields. The Malvern Community Public Library is also part of this community centre.

The Rouge Valley Health System Hospital is located at Neilson Rd And Ellesmere Rd. Scarborough Hospital General Campus is located at McCowan Rd and LawrenceAve .
